Caring  for Life A Health and Wellness Program to Reduce the Risk of Breast Cancer

Caring for life is a free 8 week health lifestyles program geared towards reducing breast cancer occurrences in women of color.

  • Weekly 2-hour information, discussion and sharing session
  • Introduction and identification of breast cancer risk factors
  • Review of breast anatomy and how to detect irregularities
  • Navigation of environmental factors associated with breast cancer
  • Body awareness, movement classes and stress reduction classes such as Qi gong & Yoga
  • Techniques to increase and reinvigorate the immune system
  • Discovering the properties of nutritional foods and their benefits to overall health

The Energy Institute host this innovative program designed to decrease breast cancer rates among all women of color. Our slogan, "A Desire to Heal Begins With You Loving You" will be illustrated to all program participants.


  • Reduce breast cancer risk by untilizing holisitic life changing tools.
  • increase knowledge of nutritional foods that fortify the immune system.
  • Strengthen the mind, body and spirit through body awareness and relaxation techniques.


  • Outline breast cancer risk factors.
  • Promote healthy food choices to increase longevity.
  • Engage in low-impact, stress reducting exercise classes.


  • Bring breast cancer awareness and education to the community.
  • Promote self-preservation practices to increase one's lifespan.
  • Provide participants with tools to share with others in an effect to reduce risks in the greater community.
  • Identify breast cancer screening facilities.

Breast cancer affects the lives of 226,870 women of which 39,510 women have died form breast cancer.  Men are not susceptible to breast cancer, and research shows that 1,970 new case of men with breast cancer.   Although white women have a higher rate of breast cancer occurrence, African-American women are 40 percent more likely to die from breast cancer.  

Breast cancer is a result of many factors, including lack of knowledge about risk factors, late detection, unhealthy lifestyles and inequalities in some medical establishments.

Caring for Life

Caring for Life is a holistic health and wellness program designed to increase awareness in women of color who are disproportopnately affected by breast cancer.  The program also strives to increase healthy lifestyle behaviors that can reduce factors associated with breast cancer diagnosis.  Caring for Life is a comprehensive program that will navigate participants towards proper nutrition, low impact exercise, screening accessibility and therapy options.

Caring for Life

Introduces healthy lifestyle components during the 8-week program, including lectures, physical activity, healthy meal preparation and hand-on training in breast health.

Risk Factors for Breast cancer:

  • Women of color between the age of 20-65
  • Overweight or obese
  • Smoker
  • Consume modrate to large qunities of alcohol
  • Regularly taking oral contriceptives or hormon replacement therapy (HRT)
  • Consumption of fatty, greasy foods
  • Family history of breast cancer
  • Large dense breast
  • Breast implants
  • Men are susceptible to breast cancer.
